Benefits of Body Weight Exercises
It’s difficult to believe that something so easy as moving your body around in different directions can actually make you more fit, stronger and also help shed unwanted pounds.
There are many serious athletes who speak about body weight exercises being beneficial to their over-all success with building mass. Body weight exercises only take the use of your arms and legs. A lot of body builders don’t think this is as beneficial as weight lifting since they don’t understand how the same muscle mass can be gained doing push-ups that can be gained with bench presses or dead-lifts. The secret is with the leverage and resistance.
The most important factor of doing a body weight work-out is the way the body is positioned. There are also just as many body builders who do understand the concept of body weight exercises and incorporate this into their work-out routines. Many feel you can achieve even better results with body weight exercises than a standard weight lifting routine, using dumbbells or pull up bars.
Body weight exercises and weight loss really go hand-in-hand because of the aerobic activity one achieves through the resistance. The body is always looking for a way to do its job more easily. You use your own weight for resistance when doing body weight exercises instead of using weights which makes it convenient since they can be performed just about any place. The body will want to reduce the amount of weight and does so by channeling more energy into the loss of unwanted body fat.
The same results can be achieved by doing several easy resistance exercises as lifting weights. Even though you are able to adjust the level of resistance when using weights you are more at risk for injury. If you want to add bulk to your muscles its necessary to push the muscles to where you can’t do one more rep. As the muscles are on the mend during the recovery process, the added muscle mass is gained.
Recent studies prove that doing fifty bench presses and fifty push-ups gain the same amount of muscle mass. If you don’t get the burn when doing leg squats you want to simply mix your routine up just a bit by adding push-ups or anything else that increases the motion leverage.
Keep in mind muscle mass does not mean more strength. Another benefit of body weight exercises is the freedom to do a work-out wherever you might be. So if you’re not able to get to the gym one day there’s no need to worry.
